This is unfortunate. Please make sure to implement a way for users to change the name of their user folder without having to mess with the registry and without having to create a new user account. Yes, this way works, but it's a pain in the ****, especially for inexperienced users, and not very user friendly.

By default, the user name folder seems to have only 5 letters or less, so if your name happens to have more than 5 letters, it is cut off (e.g. Robert -> rober or Dorothy -> dorot) which doesn't look nice for some names.

Also, for some users the name seems to have the suffix "_000" which is even more annoying.

Why not simply ask the user how he wants his user folder to be named instead of having such an automated way?

How completely rubbish.  I suppose I am used to OSX, but having the OS truncate my user name for no reason to five characters feels like something form the 1980s world of DOS not Windows 10 and the year 2015.

Why is the user folder "automatically named".

Being named "Stephen" (male name for UK at any rate) Windows 10 has even changed my gender for me, "Steph" is a female name.\

Another piece of prescriptive Microsoft poor UI.  Thanks a lot.

Stephen

Why the heck was this feature changed?! I understand the folder name being assigned and being unchangeable; however, why is it not named as the account holder?! When I logon to my computer, my correct account name is displayed [along with my Microsoft Account name {e-address}]; so , why does my user folder not bear my user name!? Why change something that didn't need changing!?

Seems like quite typical Microsoft Bovine-Male Feces, they always have to foul something up for users with every operating system.  As they begin to design a new OS, all of the major developers gather in a meeting and decide on how many things they can do to mess with the users and give us something to complain about.

Because Microsoft has determined that some users are morons and because of this, we must all be treated like morons... lowest common denominator. Every version of Windows takes this to the next level. They call it, "user friendly". We non-halfwits call it constricting and needless. This is why I still have one Win 98SE machine, a Win XP machine and just bought 5 Win7 licenses. I'm typing this on a brand new laptop that came with Win10 and will be running Win7 by this evening.

Hi!

I experience the same problem as many of your customers before.

I have a laptop and I bought an hybrid (ASUS with OS Win10) and when I start this equipment I follow all the procedure, as usual, but after the complete installation I verify that, my user folder as been automatically create with the name - Cel - and its not even my first name - Celeste.

So when you reply telling that the user folder name will be the one used in our account, I only can tell you that its not always the rule. And its time to give to your customers the right to rename their user folder.

Please think about it and do something about this unpleasant issue/problem wo many of us are experiencing.

Thank you in advance, for your assistance.

Hi Giridhar,

I think thanking me for my "interest in Windows 10" is slightly missing the point.  I have no choice unfortunately in order to run PTC Creo, I have to use Windows.

Far from "interest" though, my post related to the utter frustration of a "nanny" sytem that does not credit me with the intelegence to name my user account and proscriptively names it for me without warning.

Your shortened user name is probably Giri, so I imagine not too annoying, mine from Stephen to Steph, as I explained previously, gives me a gender change as well as not being what anyone ever calls me, or associates with me if they see a shared network folder with that name, just not even in the top 1000 of things I would want my user account to be called.

Come on Microsoft, please stop going backwards and sort out this half resolved operating system.

Thanks

Stephen
